When the limping car held together
by duct tape and wishful thinking
doesn't start in the freezing morning,
blame the snowman

When the rain seeps inside that
years-old rip in your raincoat,

Blame the inanimate object
drooping on the front lawn
Blame the thing kids pelt with
a barrage of daily snowballs
Blame the thing
that can't fight back
that has no rights
that has no opinions
that has no feelings
that you don't owe money to
that didn't break your heart
that didn't die in car wreck
that didn't ever
let your fucking needy ass down

When you need others to blame,
the snowman comes in handy
