U.C. Davis In My Eyes

In my eyes, peaceful protests
are protected by the law
under the Constitution

If they are using pepper spray,
then they are afraid of you
If they are afraid of you
then the movement is working

No mace in my face
will move me from this place!

If this generation Y Not?
needed a rallying cry,
then they got one in spades
"Remember U.C. Davis!"

It's no longer a numbers game
It's no longer 1% versus 99%
It's New Ideas versus Tradition
and something's got to give

From Wall Street to the back alleys
From California schools to online classes,
people are finally waking up

In my eyes, a country
that ignores the plight of some,
soon will suffer the rancor
and revolution of the many

If they are publicly apologizing,
you have them where you want them
If they have acknowledged you,
then they have respect for you

The future is yours
Stand up
Stand firm
State your purpose
Make the changes happen

People always ask where have all
the social commentators gone?
The Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young's
The Marvin Gaye's
The Wyclef Jean's
The N.W.A.'s
The Conor Oberst's
The Bob Marley's
The Bob Dylan's

I say stop looking for others to speak for you
Open up your own heart and find the words
I know these are dark times right now
But daylight presents new solutions
Even when the sun gets in your eyes
